"d4agrotech": Digitalisation for sustainable food production

Vienna, 21.04.2021. At 3 p.m. at Palais Lichtenstein, Lower Austria's Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner and AIT Supervisory Board President Hannes Androsch, together with Lower Austria's Provincial Councillor for Economic Affairs Jochen Danninger and Angela Sessitsch, Head of the Bioresources Unit at the Center for Health & Bioresources in Tulln, announced the launch of the "d4agrotech" initiative. The joint goal is to enable the comprehensive collection and intelligent analysis of agricultural data, accurate predictions and customised recommendations - making agriculture more efficient and climate - and resource - friendly.

The sustainable production of healthy food for everyone is one of the greatest challenges humanity faces. Digitalisation can be a great help in this: Collecting data and analysing it intelligently using artificial intelligence methods (deep learning) allows reliable forecasts and sound decision-making options for needs-based management. This makes higher yields, healthier products, better environmental compatibility and a more sustainable circular economy possible.

The "d4agrotech" initiative (data-driven and AI-based digital system solutions for sustainable agriculture 4.0), which has now been launched by the province of Lower Austria together with the AIT, is expected to bring major progress in this area. Over the next five years, AIT researchers will work with partners at the Tulln site to develop digital systems from which concrete solutions for farmers can be derived. The underlying data will be processed into high-quality simulations, data-based forecasts and well-founded decision options with the help of advanced intelligent software.

In order to bring the acquired new knowledge and the innovative methods into application as quickly as possible, companies and industrial partners are brought on board. "d4agrotech" is very user-oriented and sees itself as an initiative for industrial partners who can offer corresponding products on the market in the future.

A detailed overview of how the initiative intends to achieve its goals through digitalisation, sustainable crop protection, natural fertilisation and innovative biosensors, with concrete explanations from those responsible, can be found here: https://www.ots.at/presseaussendung/OTS_20210422_OTS0027/ait-und-land-niederoesterreich-entwickeln-landwirtschaft-40-entscheidend-mit
