Our research portfolio of renewable hybrid power plants builds on comprehensive expertise in the essential components and subsystems of such plants. This includes plant components such as photovoltaic systems, battery energy storage systems, power conversion systems as well as information and communication systems. Extensive knowledge of system integration in various energy systems, energy networks, energy markets and corresponding market services as well as the regulatory framework enables AIT – Center for Energy to provide a comprehensive portfolio for renewable, hybrid power plants.
Our focus of research activities in this area is on the development of new plant concepts, optimized plant operation and the comprehensive integration of these plants into grids and energy markets. In order to enable optimum plant operation, we place emphasis on forecasting generation and energy markets and on plant monitoring.
AIT develops various tools for the optimal design and operation of hybrid power plants. Different applications are available for technical and economic design and dimensioning. For plant operation, a platform for control and monitoring of the plant with innovative concepts is developed. A laboratory environment for efficient testing of control and monitoring is provided.
