AIT Doris Antensteiner: Empowering Women in Computer Vision

06.10.2023

Following her successful involvement in the WiCV@CVPR2022 as an organizer and following the WiCV@CVPR event in different roles, as a presenter, guest, and mentor, AIT researcher Doris Antensteiner from the research group High-Performance Vision Systems at the AIT Center for Vision, Automation & Control once again participated as an organizer in the "Women in Computer Vision" Workshop (WiCV@CVPR2023) at the Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition Conference (CVPR), one of the most prestigious conferences in the field of computer vision.

In an interview, she shares her motivation to support women in imaging.

“At WiCV@CVPR, we provided a platform that thrived on inspirational presentations and stimulating discussions. The workshop heightens the visibility of women in computer vision, provides networking opportunities and great oral presentations. Furthermore, we were fortunate to secure support from esteemed industry sponsors, not only expanding job prospects for the WiCV community but also offering sponsorship opportunities for authors in need of funding. The diverse backgrounds of our participants contributed to the event's richness and inclusivity.

My commitment to this initiative stems from my belief in the pivotal importance of advancing women in the field of computer vision in order to make their research achievements visible and to bring more women into this field.
Doris Antensteiner, AIT Center for Vision, Automation & Control

Expanding my responsibilities, I had the privilege of joining the recently established Computer Vision Board. This board, a new addition to our community, serves as a coordinating body for all WiCV activities across major conferences, including ICCV, CVPR, and ECCV. This role allows me to further champion women in computer vision and promote collaboration across various events.

Reflecting on my journey, my seven-year involvement with WiCV@CVPR and contributions to the organization of both WiCV@CVPR2023 and WiCV@CVPR2022 workshops have been rewarding experiences. WiCV provides opportunities for knowledge sharing, new perspectives, and valuable connections. I am eagerly looking forward to the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead in the field of computer vision, as I remain dedicated to empowering women in this dynamic and captivating domain.”
