MED1stMR Final Conference in Belgium

30.04.2024
19 partners from all over Europe came together at the Campus Vesta training centre on 17 and 18 April. The EU project MED1stMR is led and coordinated by Helmut Schrom-Feiertag from the AIT Centre for Technology Experience.

After three years of intensive research and development, including ‘practical tests’ with six medical organisations, it was a great experience for around 100 participants - project partners, representatives of emergency organisations, interested stakeholders and companies - to come together for a two-day final conference of the EU Horizon 2020 project MED1stMR. MED1stMR has developed a comprehensive mixed reality training solution for emergency paramedics in order to better manage complex emergency situations with many injured people in the future. All partners presented their results and contributions to the project in a comprehensive lecture programme.

Of course, it was also possible to try out the MED1stMR training solution for yourself (in groups of four people) and the AI-based MEDtrainXR solution developed by AIT could also be tested by the participants. The conference thus offered the opportunity to gain comprehensive insights into the field of mixed reality training for first responders:

  • System test: each participant was able to ‘live through’ a training or triage session in mixed reality themselves, including simulation manikins integrated into the training.
  • Stress measurement: the role of stress in peak performance was analysed and stress measurement was also included in the project
  • Scenario customisation and performance measurement: the scenarios and training environments can be adapted as required and comprehensive performance measurement is possible.
  • Technologies: Mixed reality, high-end simulation manikins, biosignal measurement, AI-based scenario control
  • Exchange: Experts from the consortium and participants: Future challenges and future needs of primary care organisations were also discussed
  • Experiences from the field trials: A wide range of experience was gathered in six extensive one-week field trials across Europe. These experiences and learnings have now been presented.
  • High user participation: Six medical first aid organisations have co-developed the solution: Johanniter Austria, Hellenic Rescue Team, SERMAS - Summa112 Madrid, Region Jämtland Härjedalen from Sweden, Heidelberg University Hospital and Campus Vesta from Belgium

The MED1stMR project was honoured with the eAward in Austria in the “Education and Social Affairs” category.
