SAFETY FOR AUTONOMOUSLY DRIVING TRUCKS - IN ALL WEATHERS

10.11.2022
AIT contributes to the development of safe and user-centred automated transport systems.

A strong signal on World Usability Day. The AIT contributes to the development of safe and user-centred automated transport systems. The European, large-scale research project "AWARD" is investigating how automated transport vehicles can sustainably improve the transport of goods in all weather conditions in Europe - on streets, at airports or at harbours. The AIT Center for Technology Experience has analysed the requirements of the users and developed a prototype of a TeleOperationStation for remote monitoring. Test persons can try out an extended reality “TeleOperationStation” setup and steer and control a small vehicle from a first-person perspective via a VR headset in a miniature traffic environment. This provides the test persons with a high degree of immersion, but also a very realistic feeling of navigation.

A video about it is online here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kdqMBsRlAzo

In addition, the AIT (Center for Energy and Center for Technology Experience) is developing a comprehensive technical fleet management system with optimisation models for the efficient use of automated vehicles in logistics applications. The Center for Technology Experience will create an adequate user interface.

The project AWARD has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 101006817.
