The future is far from over: a message from ESOF

ESOF – the EuroScience Open Forum took place from 9 to 14 July in Toulouse. ESOF is the largest interdisciplinary science meeting in Europe. It is dedicated to scientific research and innovation and offers a unique framework for interaction and debate for scientists, innovators, policy makers, business people and the general public. <link ueber-das-ait researcher-profiles>Matthias Weber, Head of <link ueber-das-ait center center-for-innovation-systems-policy>Center for Innovation Systems & Policy organized in the framework of the Scientific Programme the session “The re-configuration of research and Innovation (R&I): New directions and policy approaches for tackling global change”.

The European Commission’s foresight project <link themen societal-futures projects bohemia>BOHEMIA inspired a lively meeting on the reconfiguration of Research and Innovation policies in Europe. The session included short parallel discussions on the issues involved in EU R&I policy successfully addressing key future transitions identified in the BOHEMIA study: harnessing innovation, safeguarding a hospitable planet, and providing for the needs of people. Some 60 participants discussed their foresight experiences in 3 working groups. In the concluding panel discussion, they had the opportunity to express and discuss their views on the challenges ahead.
