Innovative Solutions for the Production of the Future

02.01.2017
Together with 23 industrial partners, AIT is assigned to carry out the national lead project MMAssist II

One of the big challenges for the industry of the future is the demand for individualized products at competitive prices. However, traditional production methods lack necessary flexibility. One strategy to meet this challenge is the use of assistance systems with cognitive characteristics. “The synergy between human being and machine is the central theme for future production environments. In this context, assistance is based on specific usage requests and needs innovative implementation”, says the scientific project manager Manfred Tscheligi (AIT Center for Technology Experience).

For this reason, the national lead project MMAssist II focuses on the development of those technologies which support industrial workers in a practical sense. Therefore, the factory of the future will not be deserted at all, as it is often feared. Instead, it is necessary to optimize the human-machine interface.

As part of a top-class consortium coordinated by the PROFACTOR GmbH, AIT investigates modular units with specific assistance functions, which are made available for other partners beyond the particular use case. The company workers are closely involved in the development of these solutions. On the one hand, assistance systems carry out monotonous and straining labour, and on the other hand, they provide solutions for an increasing variant diversity. In the course of the project, AIT experts will analyze the workers’ concerns and evaluate what kind of assistance is accepted.
