Software for biometric contactless ten-print fingerprint acquisition on smartphones

AIT has developed a module for capturing fingerprints with a normal smartphone with no additional requirements, for applications based on commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) products. The solution achieves a GAR (general acceptance rate) of 97%, which is the ICAO recommendation for identification purposes.

The built-in camera works as a scanner module which reads the machine-readable zone (MRZ type 1, 2 and 3) on a passport, and transforms the text into digital format via optical character recognition. This allows the phone to access the passport chip for verification.
