For more than a decade now AIT Austrian Institute of Technology has pooled outstanding scientific knowledge gained from intensive research in the ever more important quantum technology domain and has led huge European initiatives like “Open QKD” or different flagship projects from their beginnings.
Leading-edge Quantum Research as AIT’s hallmark
The built-up excellence of AIT in focus areas like Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) and in the development of affordable Quantum applications based on miniaturized “System-on-Chip” solutions will strongly support the European Union’s vision to realize a tap-proof Quantum Communication Infrastructure (EuroQCI) in upcoming years till 2027.
With a rich project history AIT is well prepared to contribute in both segments of the envisaged EuroQCI, the terrestrial as well as the satellite based one, as the institute plays a dominant role in the European Quantum technology research eco-system for many years.
Originating from its very foundation as a scientific safe-guard for critical infrastructure AIT has constantly expanded its research focus in the quantum arena to develop new encryption patterns for safe future networks and secured data traffic and to further integrate the technology chain from fabrication to applications, making Quantum Communication a common good for everyone.
In a recent involvement at the QSAFE study, coordinated by Deutsche Telekom AG, AIT is contributing to the development of a “blue-print” for a Europe wide Quantum Security Network architecture with insights on key physical pre-conditions. And in Austria AIT will lead a project consortium to evaluate the inclusion of Quantum systems in operative Net- and IT-environments of government agencies (QKD4Gov).
