FAKE-SHOP DETECTOR RECEIVES PRESTIGIOUS IT BUSINESS AWARD E-AWARD

17.10.2023
Linz-based IT solution provider X-Net, together with its project partners AIT and ÖIAT, was awarded the IT Business Prize eAward in the category "Machine Learning and AI" for its Fake Shop Detector project.

The Fake Shop Detector, a pioneering AI-based technology in the fight against fraudulent online stores and cybercrime, was awarded the prestigious IT business prize, the eAward, yesterday evening in Vienna. The joy in the developer team was great, as this award once again underlines the enormous potential of Austrian top research and development in the commitment to the security and protection of consumers in online commerce.

E-bikes in summer, firewood in the energy crisis, toys before Christmas: Fake stores develop according to trends and lure with deceptively genuine and serious-looking offers on the Internet at bargain prices. Those who order there wait in vain for the goods they have paid for. The stores appear on the Internet and usually disappear again as soon as the fraud is discovered. At least 320,000 Austrians fall for cyber fraud every year and suffer losses of around 30 million euros a year, according to a dark field study. (The OÖN already reported on 22.04.2023 about the Fake Shop Detector and gave tips on how users can protect themselves when buying online).
