On September 26, 2023, the renowned Billrothhaus in Vienna, a traditional meeting place of the "Gesellschaft der Ärzte" (Doctor's Society), became the venue for the "Gesundheitspolitisches Forum" (Health Policy Forum). After a short preliminary discussion, Dr. Jan Oliver Huber and Dr. Susanne Herbek opened the forum - Anton Dunzendorfer, Head of Competence Unit Digital Health Information Systems of the AIT Center for Health and Bioresources, was invited to speak about the state and future of telemedicine.
As a successor to the Health Policy Salon, the Forum has established itself as an important information and discussion platform in the Austrian healthcare sector. Here, the opinions of experts from the fields of medicine, economics, law and politics come together to illuminate health policy issues in their full depth.
Future perspectives of telemedicine
Anton Dunzendorfer emphasized the challenges arising from population development and the increasing prevalence of chronic diseases. In doing so, he showed practical examples of telemedicine and highlighted how new technologies can revolutionize healthcare. Dunzendorfer explained "the integration of telemedicine into the Austrian healthcare system can not only be an answer to the increasing prevalence of chronic diseases and the demographic development, but is also an opportunity to establish new, efficient processes and procedures that are in line with the current legal framework."
A special focus was on the technical requirements of telemedicine and how these can be brought in line with current legal frameworks, such as the DSGVO and the AI Act.
After intensive discussions with the audience, both on-site and online, the evening ended with a cozy get-together over a light snack at Billrothhaus
