Eight winning videos awarded at first LET'S TECH Day

A festive award ceremony during the first LET'S TECH Day on June 19 in Vienna was the crowning finale for this year's young talent video competition organized by the OVE Austrian Association for Electrical Engineering together with the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology. A total of eight videos by students and apprentices on the topic of "Man and Machine" were awarded prizes.

How can robots improve our lives and make our everyday lives easier? This question was the focus of this year's LET'S TECH video competition. Robots have long taken over unpleasant or difficult tasks for humans. But how can robotics take us further? A total of almost one hundred videos with creative ideas were submitted. After an editorial pre-selection, a jury of robotics experts and science communicators chose the seven best videos. The winner of the audience award was determined by more than 13,000 votes cast in the online voting.

Award ceremony at the LET'S TECH Day

The award ceremony took place during the first LET'S TECH Day in Vienna. Helmut Leopold, Head of Center for Digital Safety & Security at AIT, gave the students an insight into the opportunities and challenges presented by artificial intelligence in a keynote speech. Jury chairman Gerald Steinbauer-Wagner, President of the Society for Measurement, Automation & Robotics: "I am very impressed by the thematic breadth and the quality of the videos. I hope they motivate many young people to deal with the topics of robotics and AI in their training and later in their careers. After all, what could be better than playing with robots all day and getting paid for it?"

LET'S TECH Day on Robotics & AI

Playing "four wins" against a robot, directing a robot arm and stacking blocks with it, or pestering experts with questions: Almost 600 students took advantage of the new LET'S TECH Day to learn more about robotics and AI and to find out about jobs and future opportunities. OVE Secretary General Peter Reichel: "The European Commission has declared 2023 the 'European Year of Skills'. I am all the more pleased that we can now offer another event for the potential skilled workers of the future in the form of the LET'S TECH Day. Skills in electrical engineering and information technology are the key to a sustainable and digital future. We convey this message to young people in a practical way." LET'S TECH Day 2023 was organized in cooperation with GMAR Gesellschaft für Mess-, Automatisierungs- und Robotertechnik and is supported by numerous companies and organizations, including ABB, Airskin, KUKA, Omron, Schmachtl, AIT Austrian Institute of Technology, FH Technikum Wien, FH Salzburg, PRIA - Practical Robotics Institute Austria, Wiener Bildungsserver, BRG Neusiedl and HTL Mödling.
