Kickoff of Horizon Europe project Greengage

08.03.2023
Strengthening urban governance based on crowdsourcing and co-creation with the citizens

The kick-off of the Horizon Europe project GREENGAGE took place in Bristol (UK) on 20 and 21 February 2023. Coordinated by the Austrian Institute of Technology, 17 partners from 8 European countries are working to provide digital solutions for transforming citizen engagement in 5 pilot cities and improving the effectiveness of cities in implementing the goals of the European Green Deal towards a carbon neutral city. The Europe-wide Innovation Action (IA) focuses on the use of intelligent systems in urban decision-making processes.

GREENGAGE aims to empower citizens by means of so-called Citizen Observatories (CO) with the aid of digital technologies to collect and record so-called in-situ data in their urban environment in the areas of mobility, air quality and healthy living. The insights gained shall be used to validate, supplement, and enhance existing (Earth Observation) data from public administrations to be able to form an even better and evidence-based decision-making basis for smart urban governance. On the one hand, the GREENGAGE CO approach should contribute to creating social awareness for the governance processes within a city, on the other hand, it should draw attention to environmental challenges such as climate change, poor air quality or healthy living in an urban environment.

Hence, GREENGAGE will provide innovative governance models based on novel decision-making methods and technologies.
