Ulrike Ritzinger awarded with ÖGOR prize 2022 for her PhD thesis

27.10.2022

Every year the Austrian Society for Operations Research (ÖGOR) awards a prize for outstanding dissertations and master theses on topics dealing with Operations Research (OR). OR is the development and implementation of mathematic methods supporting decision making. Theoretical papers as well as practical applications of OR can be submitted.

This year the ÖGOR prize for the best dissertation was awarded to Ulrike Ritzinger, Scientist at the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology, Center for Energy.

Topic of her thesis is “Health Logistics: Dynamic Stochastic Fleet Management”.

It deals with questions that arise from optimizing ambulance transports. Ulrike Ritzinger presents various solution methods for classical formulations from scientific literature as well as for problems from practice in ambulance transports. With her elaborations she could show, which algorithms are most suitable for various scenarios, such as different dynamic situations, achieving shortest response times and data synchronization.

After many years of work at AIT in this and other fields of transport optimization and logistics Ulrike Ritzinger was able to crown her research with the conclusion of her dissertation, that was supervised by the professors Jakob Puchinger and Richard Hartl.

Ulrike Ritzinger will continue her research on optimization of dynamic transport problems at AIT, putting special emphasis on inclusion of autonomous vehicles, electric mobility, energy efficiency and reduction of CO2 emissions.

The prize was given at the annual meeting of ÖGOR by representatives of ÖGOR and the sponsoring company scc EDB-Beratung. At this occasion the prize-winners also presented their awarded theses.
