Center for Health & Bioresources presents itself at Pharmig Biotech Platform

In October 2020, the digital Pharmig Biotech Platform took place on the topic "Life Science Research Networks & Site Strengthening", where the AIT Center for Health & Bioresources presented its main health topics.

Helga Thieben, Director Regulatory Affairs, Supply & Innovation at Pharmig and responsible for the Pharmig Biotech Platform, moderated the two and a half hour event with lively participation from industry and the public sector. The biotech platform, founded by Pharmig in 2016, serves to network and exchange information between start-ups and established pharmaceutical companies, academia and incubators.

Elke Guenther, Head of Center Health & Bioresources, opened the event with a general overview of the AIT and the health sector in particular, before the state of research and development in "Molecular Diagnostics" (headed by Martin Jung) and in "Digital Health Information Systems" (Anton Dunzendorfer) formed the speakers part of the event. In keynote speeches, Martin Jung presented the topic of "Minimally invasive diagnostics: biomarkers, biosensors and point-of-care systems for future decentralized and quantitative analytics", followed by Anton Dunzendorfer with the topic of "Telehealth - How digitization and closed-loop solutions are advancing remote patient care".

The second part of the event was dedicated to the topic of "European Health Initiatives & Current Life Science Location Policy" in a digital panel discussion with Birgit Steininger from FFG, Florian Frauscher from the Federal Ministry for Digitalization and Business Location and AIT Dirk Holste, AIT and Deputy Head of Center for Health & Bioresources.

Prior to the launch of the new EU research program "Horizon Europe" at the beginning of 2021, the speakers and participants in the discussion not only succeeded in highlighting important points of contact between applied research, technology development and increasing innovation in the life sciences sector, but also the advantages of integrating Austria as a partner in European research networks and public-private partnerships as an important step towards open innovation and technology leadership.
