Judith Fegerl does experiments in the high voltage lab of the Center for Energy

Since November 2018, ARTTEC visualizes the interfaces of art, technology and science in the foyer of Giefinggasse 4. Artistic interventions broaden the perspective on thematic focal points. Our first exhibition was dedicated to the topic "speed" (with Chris Noelle, November 2018 to June 2019). After this successful exhibition ARTTEC went into the next round: Since June 2019 the topic is called "Energy" with Artist-in-Residence Judith Fegerl.

Judith's current experiment in the high voltage lab of the Center for Energy has to do with the elementary forces of nature: She chases lightning and arcs through a sand bed. As a result, the sand partially melts and solidifies into jagged shapes, so-called fulgurites. In addition, Judith wants to thematize mankind's attempt to tame the forces of nature: She has collected old lightning rods from Viennese houses, which are activated again by an artificial lightning strike in a high-voltage lab.

The fulgurites will be exhibited in the foyer of Giefinggasse 4 in October.
