Electric Mobility for Urban Freight Logistics

29.04.2014
The AIT is coordinating a research project to evaluate technical and economic advantages of electrical vehicles in urban freight logistics.

Within the project EMILIA, a consortium coordinated by the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology is evaluating to what extent electric mobility can be introduced in urban freight logistics. EMILIA is aiming at the development and experimental implementation of novel freight logistics concepts in urban areas specifically designed for electric vehicles. Especially, the driving range is to be increased and the costs reduced. Therefore, e.g. energy-efficient powertrains for heavy-duty and utility vehicles or lightweight hybrid load trains will be designed. The project, which will run until May 2017, is funded with approx. 2.65 Mio € by the BMVIT and the Climate and Energy Fund as part of the program “Leuchttürme der E-Mobilität“.

The EMILIA project partners cooperating with the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology are:

  • LKR Leichtmetallkompetenzzentrum Ranshofen GmbH
  • Clusterland Oberösterreich GmbH
