Europeana Creative

Europeana Creative addressed objective 2.1.b “Experimenting with the use of cultural material for creativity” of the CIP ICT PSP Call 6. The project experimented with models, innovative applications, and services for creative re-use of cultural resources and the material accessible through Europeana.

The Europeana Creative consortium assembled the required expertise, critical mass and outreach network coverage to successfully address the required outcome. The project established the Europeana Open Labs Network as a sustainable environment for experimentation and stakeholder engagement. The Europeana Content Re-Use Framework was developed to allow content providers to make their content available for specified re-use scenarios. The consortium implemented the required infrastructure and services to support the re-use of European cultural resources and to boost creativity and long-term business development. Five pilot applications and five open innovation challenges were carried out in the thematic areas of history education, natural history education, tourism, social networks. Business models allowing key stakeholders within the Europeana ecosystem to develop their own applications and services based on the Europeana Content Re-Use Framework were identified. Finally, an extensive stakeholder engagement campaign promoted Europeana’s cultural heritage content to the creative industries and the merits of creative re-use of it to cultural institutions.
