Societal Resilience & Security
Global challenges such as climate change, pandemics, or social and geopolitical conflicts such as local threats, flooding, and overheated cities, presents us with unprecedented problems. At the same time, we have more data and computing capacities than ever before. However, these are often not used effectively and the knowledge available in data often remains unutilized. The subsequent decisions are not made in view of reliable facts, but rather on assumptions. Communication exchange remains mostly via mobile calls and emails. This leads to decisions being delayed and made without the necessary information; therefore, measures are implemented inefficiently. The use of modern information and communicating technologies (ICT) offers limitless possibilities to better assess situations and existing options, thus being able to set targeted measures and better coordinate operations. Additionally, the public can get actively involved and informed via digital channels. ICT contributes directly to increasing security and resilience in society.
The research area Societal Resilience and Security of the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology developed digital solutions for different application domains. As a result, we always pursue a user-centred holistic approach. Based on our ongoing research activities, we develop specific solutions for our customers.
