#SuccessStory: Standardised data access for all as the basis for Europe's energy future

25.03.2024
The European research project EDDIE, led by the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria Campus Hagenberg, is working on creating the technical infrastructure for this.

Digitalisation and the rapidly expanding use of renewable energy sources are leading to completely new structures in the energy system. With photovoltaic panels on the roof, consumers are also becoming producers and suppliers of energy. Smart meters enable users to react flexibly to price signals with their demand. The once centrally controlled energy system is transforming into a network of decentralised systems with a large number of stakeholders. The exchange of data (such as prices, capacity utilisation, C02 intensities) is becoming the decisive mechanism in energy management, which requires the creation of a standardised European interface that can be used by everyone from service companies to end customers and consumers. The European research project EDDIE (European Distributed Data Infrastructure for Energy), led by the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria Campus Hagenberg, is tackling this task. It is working on a software solution for a decentralised and networked data space that enables EU-wide energy data exchange at member state level.
