The AIT Austrian Institute of Technology congratulates Nobel Prize nominee Prof. Anton Zeilinger on the highest honor for a great Austrian scientist. Special thanks are due to Professor Zeilinger for his ability to combine basic research with its application perspective, thus enabling the development of concrete quantum technologies. Based on the groundbreaking research work of Professor Anton Zeilinger, AIT was able to develop concrete applications and technologies, especially in the field of quantum communication, together with Prof. Zeilinger at a very early stage. For example, the European research project "SECOQC", coordinated by AIT 2004 - 2008 and involving 41 partners from twelve countries, was based on fundamental research with entangled photons by Professor Zeilinger.
Over the past decade, AIT has established an excellent international reputation as a specialist in both terrestrial and satellite-based quantum cryptography and as a coordinator of major European projects, such as the highly competitive European "Quantum Flagship" program, which aims to develop quantum technologies for the mass market. Currently, the work of quantum researchers is focused in particular on the miniaturization of the devices required for quantum communication. Together with other European partners, AIT coordinates the EuroQCI initiative, which aims to establish a quantum communication network throughout Europe.
