Computational Fluid Dynamics Services

Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analyzes and solves fluid dynamic problems by numerical methods. The expected system behavior can be evaluated already in the design phase, reducing development time and costs. State-of-the art commercial software is applied to model and simulate large scale tasks on the high performance computing (HPC) facility of the department.

The AIT experts of the CFD team focus on problems related to clean and sustainable vehicle technologies, which include:

  • Aerodynamic performance of air vehicles
  • Aerodynamic performance and noise prediction of rotating propellers and fans
  • Ice accretion of aeroplane structures (wings, propellers)
  • Thermal analysis of components and subsystems of green vehicles (electrical machines, power electronics, electrical energy storage systems, cabin heating)
  • Simulation of pressure waves in railway tunnels
