The planning of production processes can no longer be separated from energy issues. Many different, innovative technologies, such as thermal energy storage, factory-roof photovoltaic systems, industrial heat pumps or data processing need to be optimally tuned to save energy and money, protect the environment and reach the Paris climate goals.
The opportunities for successful implementation of beforementioned technologies will be studied under the newly founded doctoral program SIC! (Smart Industrial Concept!). It is supervised by Univ. Prof. Dr. René Hofmann, endowed professor at the Institute of Energy Systems and Thermodynamics of the TU Wien and at the AIT, one of the cooperation partners of the doctoral school. All in all, SIC! offers eight doctoral theses, four at the TU Wien, two at the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology and two at the Montanuniversität Leoben (Energy Network Technology). The partner companies Fundermax GmbH and ILF Consulting Engineers Austria GmbH also make an important contribution. Hardware and software support are provided by evon GmbH, OSIsoft LLC and EVN AG.
