New Full Professor at the University of Bielefeld

16.04.2014
As of April 1st, 2014, Univ.Doz. Dr. Dietmar Bauer, formerly AIT Mobility, Dynamic Transportation Systems, is new professor at the University of Bielefeld.

Univ. Doz. Dr. Dietmar Bauer, who worked since 2005 at the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology, received a tenured position as a full professor in econometrics at Bielefeld University (Department of Economics).

Mr. Dietmar Bauer studied Applied Mathematics at the TU Wien, where he also received his "venia docendi" in the field of Econometrics. During numerous post-doc positions he visited the University of Newcastle, Australia, Linköping University, Sweden and – financed with a Max Kade grant – the Cowles Foundation, Yale, New Haven, CT-USA.

At the AIT Mobility Department he was active as a senior scientist in the field of transport modeling in particular crowd dynamics and traffic demand modeling. The latter was pursued inter alia in cooperation with the HumNet group (Prof. Marta Gonzalez) at MIT, Cambridge, MA-USA.

His research topics in Bielefeld can be categorized into three broad fields: time series analysis, spatio-temporal modeling and discrete choice modeling. This allows Mr. Dietmar Bauer to combine his pre-AIT life at the TU Wien with the competences acquired mostly under the excellent guidance and support from Ms. Katja Schechtner and Mr. Fabio Ricciato. Furthermore Mr. Dietmar Bauer will pursue the two latter research topics in close cooperation with AIT Mobility.

Mr. Dietmar Bauer is the author or co-author of a total of 24 journal and 44 conference papers as well as 3 book chapters. As the third Austrian he received the "multa scripsit" award from the journal Econometric Theory.

We wish him all the best for his future endeavors and look forward to join forces in a tight cooperation.
