Security & Communication Technologies

We are always on the lookout for talented individuals from natural and information science who are enthusiastic about helping to shape a secure digital future. With your career decision for a research job at the AIT, you have signalled to us that you want to work enthusiastically as an expert in cyber security among experienced colleagues on the protection of critical infrastructures and reliable communication media for many emerging technological applications of the future.

"I can assure you that in my Competence Unit you will encounter such challenging topics as

artificial intelligence and machine learning, quantum physics methods or application development

for ultra-fast mobile 5G communication, as well as methods and tools for improving software

systems, which will demand skill, dedication and passion from you, as well as sometimes the

          courage to break new ground."

The development portfolio of the Security & Communication Technologies Competence Unit includes the following key topics, in which close cooperation with international users and representatives of public authorities takes place:

Cyber Security

Thanks to the special know-how at AIT, Austria is internationally regarded as a high-tech location for cyber security. Thanks to its many years of experience in the field of digital security, AIT has established itself as a responsible partner for the relevant national authorities and as a recognised institution for cyber security in the European research landscape. The experts at AIT rely on machine learning to develop groundbreaking technologies and solutions for the future cyber security ecosystem and thus counteract the threats posed by new extensive ICT infrastructures with increasing networking and unclear attack surfaces. These special IT security solutions set new standards and help to ensure the competitiveness of domestic products in the global marketplace through Austrian know-how.

Enabling Digital Technologies

Secure electronic communication links are the cornerstone of modern society. Our experts are researching new methods for using the physical properties of optical and wireless communication media to ensure a high level of security. In the optical area, quantum effects are used to ensure that no one can eavesdrop on communications unnoticed. In the wireless area, new types of communication methods are being developed for 5G systems that enable ultra-reliable communication connections with the lowest latency times. In this way, for example, previously wired production environments can be replaced by wireless systems in the future or autonomous vehicles can communicate reliably with each other.

Dependable Systems Engineering

The Dependable Systems Engineering (DSE) research group investigates and develops methods, tools and standards for improving, verifying and validating the reliability of software and systems - from conception and development to certification and operation. The research group contains experienced experts including scientists and practitioners and, in addition to basic research questions, is primarily dedicated to practical issues from industry.
