Calculation and measurement of electromagnetic fields

EMF Calculations and Measurements According to IEC Standards: Ensuring Reliable Compliance with Limits for Electrical Installations

To ensure compliance with these limits, we offer the following services:

  • Calculation of EMF for electrical installations and lines using the Finite Element Method (FEM), and/or
  • Measurement of EMF in our laboratory or in the field.

For factory-assembled transformer stations, both services are performed in accordance with IEC 62271-202 and IEC 62271-208.

Our calculation methods are experimentally validated and account for the (partial) shielding or amplification effects of materials such as aluminum or steel sheets, as well as reinforced concrete.

These calculation methods offer specific advantages under certain conditions:

  • Field current load cannot be realized as required.
  • Determining the distance at which a specific limit value is not exceeded – isoline plotting.
  • Existing installations in densely built environments.

Electromagnetic Fields (EMF) in Electrical Power Supply

Electrical installations and lines operating at frequencies of 50, 60, or 16 2/3 Hz emit electric and magnetic fields. These fields induce currents in human tissue, which can be harmful to health. As a testing center, AIT offers the calculation and measurement of electromagnetic fields from electrical installations, either in the laboratory or in the field.
