The AIT Austrian Institute of Technology offers excellent research and validation infrastructure to ensure that your powertrain development process meets the market requirements. With our testbed solutions we enable you to increase quality, reduce costs and the time-to-market. We offer one-stop solutions.


Power supply:

  • Sinusoidal: 5 to 180Hz, up to 5000V, 400kW
  • DC: up to 600V, 400kW
  • Frequency converter: control of asynchronous and permanent magnet synchronous machines up to 160kW

Drive test beds:

  • High dynamic test bed 100kW up to 22000 rpm
  • High dynamic test bed 120kW up to 8000 rpm
  • Test bed 280kW up to 3500 rpm

Both high dynamic test beds are suitable for „Hardware-in-the-Loop" control with max. scan rate of 1kHz.

Measurement equipment / Data acquisition

Electrical values

Power analyze:

  • RMS values splitted in fundamentals and harmonics
  • Voltage and current waveforms with max. scan rate of 5MHz

Non-electrical values

  • High precision torque sensors from 0.1Nm up to 2000Nm, max. scan rate 10KHz
  • Speed as impulse or analog signal
  • Temperatures; thermocouples, PT100, KTY, etc.
  • Customer specific sensors with voltage, current or frequency output can be recorded
  • Cooling circuits with air or liquids

         - Flow sensors and controllers

         - Temperature control of input or output coolant

Our in-house developed open software platform MOPRO is used for data acquisition and control of the power supply equipment and drivetrain test facilities. The software allows centralized and time-synchronous acquisition, storage and visualization of measurement data. The integrated control option enables the simulation of user-defined performance profiles or drive cycles and the definition of semi- or fully automatic test procedures. The following interfaces are available for the integration of customers’ drive control systems:

  • Analog input/output
  • Digital input/output
  • Serial interfaces RS232/RS485/USB
  • GPIB
  • CAN interface
