This project covered the positioning of ACIB in the international scientific community related to worldwide research activities.

We used a scienctometric approach to map and evaluate all research activities based on publications. The results served to assist the definition of the future orientation of the competence center.

Research of the international scientific community on issues of industrial biotechnology has increased very fast in the last decades. The competence center “acib – Austrian Centre of Industrial biotechnology” is an important player and builds its future perspectives and its strategic long-term orientation along the international hotspots and findings in this field. However it is a complex challenge to identify, monitor and benchmark the competences of such a thematically diversified competence

center on one hand and to develop a future research agenda based on the international research findings in industrial biotechnology. This project aimed to develop a decision-making basis starting with the portfolio of current competences and rethinking it with global research in selected fields. We applied the bibliometric science mapping approach to visualize, identify and analyze research in biotechnology on one hand and expert workshops to evaluate the results on the other hand. The results were used to rearrange the scientific fields of the competence center for the period 2020 to 2025.
