AUTOMATED FORKLIFT FOR OUTDOOR OPERATIONS
The major European project AWARD (All Weather Autonomous Real logistics operations and Demonstrations) investigated how automated transport vehicles can sustainably improve the transport of goods in all weathers in Europe. At an international level, 28 project partners analysed a wide range of use cases and scenarios.
AUTOMATED, SAFE AND USER-CENTRED TRANSPORT AND LOGISTICS SYSTEMS
AIT plays a key role in the optimisation of logistics processes and the AWARD project focused on the automation of loading and unloading processes using forklift trucks in outdoor operations. This should significantly increase efficiency in the logistics sector in the future.
The driverless forklift truck was presented as part of the AWARD project in the Large-Scale Robotics Lab. In a specific application, the automated loading and unloading of a lorry with pallets to and from a loading zone was demonstrated.
AIT involved in the AWARD project:
AIT Center for Technology Experience (AIT Coordinator at AWARD): Human-Machine Interface (HMI)
AIT Center for Vision Automation and Control (research groups Complex Dynamical Systems and Assistive & Autonomous Systems): Intelligent automation and environment detection for robust outdoor operation
AWARD has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program under Grant Agreement No 101006817.
