AIT Battery Researcher Stefano Passerini Among the World's Most Cited Scientists

Renowned energy storage expert ranks among the most influential researchers in his field
 

Professor Stefano Passerini, Senior Expert Advisor at the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology, is listed among the world’s most cited scientists. This recognition is confirmed by the prestigious “Highly Cited Researchers” list compiled by Clarivate. Published annually, the list highlights researchers whose scientific work is cited most frequently worldwide, reflecting their exceptional impact on the global research community.

“Highly Cited Researchers”: A Global Benchmark for Scientific Excellence

The 2024 “Highly Cited Researchers” list includes 6,636 researchers from 59 countries, representing the top 0,1 percent of the most frequently cited scientists in their respective fields. In Austria, 47 researchers have earned a place on this esteemed list, including Professor Passerini.

The selection is based on scientific publications from 2013 to 2023 that have been cited most frequently by peers. Citation frequency serves as a key indicator of the relevance and influence of a researcher’s work.

Stefano Passerini: A Pioneer in Energy Storage Research

Professor Passerini is an internationally recognized leader in battery research, driving the development of sustainable energy storage solutions. With almost 800 scientific publications, a Scopus H-index of 124, and more than 55,000 citations, he is among the most influential figures in his field. His research focuses on high-energy batteries and supercapacitors, emphasizing environmentally friendly materials and sustainable processes.

A Remarkable Career in Science

In addition to his role at the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology, Stefano Passerini serves as a Distinguished Senior Fellow at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). Previously, he held professorships at the Helmholtz Institute Ulm (HIU of KIT) and the University of La Sapienza in Rome. Passerini is a pioneer in the fields of ionic liquids, polymer electrolytes and sodium-ion batteries. He is also Editor-in-Chief of the prestigious Journal of Power Sources and a Fellow of both the Electrochemical Society and the International Society of Electrochemistry.
