At the Center for Digital Safety & Security, we bring together research activities in future technologies such as photonics, quantum communication, wireless communication, and embedded systems to drive innovation and thus master the current and future digital challenges across all societal and industrial sectors of our networked data economy.

In the optical domain, quantum effects are utilized to guarantee a high level of security and prevent undetected eavesdropping on communications. Coherent optical communication devices and technologies ensure energy-efficient communication links with high data rates. In the field of wireless communication, we are developing novel methods for 5G and future 6G systems that enable ultra-reliable communication links with minimal latency. In this way, for example, previously wired production environments can be replaced by wireless systems in the future, or the reliability of energy-efficient systems can be increased while simultaneously reducing operating costs.
