Retrofitting Heat Pump Systems in Large Non-domestic Buildings
The project has provided practical evidence that larger non-residential buildings can be successfully retrofitted with heat pumps for heating and cooling. The work focused on industrial buildings, hospitals, shopping centres, and educational institutions (kindergardens, schools, universities, and museums).
Based on selected reference projects, easy-to-handle and readily accessible recommendations in the form of a guideline have been developed. These guidelines present and evaluate suitable system configurations for the above-mentioned types of non-residential buildings, highlighting their relative advantages and disadvantages. The guideline is intended to support early-stage decision-making and the identification of suitable solution pathways; it does not replace detailed system design or project-specific engineering.
