The digitalisation of work processes, but also crisis situations, are leading to changes in the way we work. In the current situation, for example, many people are working from home, where there is often an increased use of video conferencing tools. However, people with visual impairments often have problems using these tools and are thus excluded from many job opportunities or face significant barriers. By applying digital optimisation options (adapting brightness and contrast, highlighting edges, adjusting colours, etc.), these obstacles can be overcome and integration into new occupational fields made possible. Within the framework of the VED Tools project, the AIT Center for Technology Experience is developing individually configurable, innovative digital optimisation tools to optimally support visually impaired employees in the performance of their tasks. These can be, for example, barrier-free video conferencing applications or digital whiteboards for visually impaired users. This opens up new fields of employment and opportunities for those affected.
The project is being carried out by the AIT Center for Technology Experience together with the Austrian Association for the Blind and Partially Sighted (as coordinator). The developed tools are being used in the pilot phase at Unicredit Bank Austria and Videbis GmbH.
