AIT Austrian Institute of Technology is a leading competence center for terrestrial and satellite-based quantum cryptography in Europe. Together with Adyta, IT, Técnico Lisboa, Altice Labs (Portugal), Télefonica, Universidad Politecnica de Madrid (Spain), and Nextworks (Itaaly), AIT carried out a groundbreaking demonstration of quantum-secure communication technologies for military applications as part of the DISCRETION project. The presentation took place in January at the Portuguese Embassy in Brussels and was attended by high-ranking representatives of European security and defense institutions.
DISCRETION project: Security for the quantum era
DISCRETION is a €6 million initiative supported by the European Commission via the European Defence Industrial Development Programme (EDIDP). The aim is to develop a software-defined network (SDN) with quantum key distribution (QKD) to protect military networks from new threats.
Key features:
- Increased resilience against cyber attacks
- Agile and flexible integration of new technologies
- Tamper-proof quantum key distribution (QKD) for tap-proof communication
European cooperation for defense security
The project is led by Deimos Engenharia and includes partners from Portugal, Spain, Austria and Italy. The aim is to develop a robust and resilient communication solution for European defense.
The technological innovation is intended to revolutionize the security of military communications and ensure a stable, tap-proof infrastructure for strategic and tactical operations in Europe.
