AIT and STRABAG win eAward with BuildsaVR

01.10.2025
Great success and recognition for the BuildsaVR project. The virtual reality training solution for construction workers to improve occupational safety, developed in close cooperation between AIT and STRABAG, won in the Future Technologies category.

At the ceremony for the prestigious eAward – now in its 20th year – the team from the AIT Center for Technology Experience and STRABAG received the award yesterday in the festive atmosphere of the Palais Eschenbach. About 200 guests from the worlds of business, science and politics attended the anniversary gala, with a total of 12 projects receiving awards at the eAward 2025.

For greater safety on construction sites

BuildsaVR is an innovative VR training solution for construction workers that complements conventional safety training in an interactive and practical way. The big advantage: scenarios that could cause serious accidents in an emergency can be trained safely, resource-efficiently and at any time – even directly on construction sites.

Three modules are currently available for working with road rollers, excavators and dump trucks. A change of perspective between machine operators and ground personnel ensures that mutual understanding grows and safety awareness is strengthened in the long term. ight from the start, an interdisciplinary team worked together with occupational safety officers and XR developers from AIT and STRABAG to develop a user-oriented solution. AIT has many years of experience in the field of XR (extended reality) in training and education.

The jury's verdict:

  • ‘Great solution for the continuous development of employees’
  • ‘Saves time and money and improves training quality’
  • ‘Extremely important topic’

BuildsaVR impressively demonstrates how digital technologies and practical research can contribute to significantly improving occupational safety on construction sites. We would like to congratulate the entire project team on their outstanding work. We would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate all the other award-winning projects.
