AIT presence at the VÖSI Software Day

30.01.2025
Concentrated AIT expertise at the VÖSI Software Day at the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber with a record number of 360 participants.

Markus Murtinger from the AIT Center for Technology Experience gave a keynote speech on how extended reality (XR), simulations and digital twins work together. A good example of this is the XR training solution MEDtrainXR: highly immersive, personalised training is possible with the help of a simulation mannequin, mixed reality, a simulated environment and artificial intelligence #AI. In the discussion moderated by Rudolf Felser from New Business Verlag, Colonel Manfred Mörtl from the Federal Ministry of Defence explained how important simulation is as a supplement to education and training in the armed forces - it is also about saving costs and resources. TU Wien researcher Katharina Krösel, on the other hand, is working on how visual impairments can be simulated in VR and AR with her start-up XR Eye. Everyone agreed that these technologies are here to stay and that both hardware and software will develop enormously in the coming years - there is also a lot of potential for innovation and research

Otto Brechelmacher from the AIT Center for Digital Safety & Security discussed the topic of ‘Cyber Security & Software Development’ with Manfred Pascher, Natalia Petrova-Korudzhiyski and Daniel Sigl, moderated by Martin Szelgrad from Report Verlag. Brechelmacher: ‘It's about recognising cyber threats in a system as early as possible, which means security by design is very important.’ Tip from the panellists: Test as much as possible and pay attention to: What impact does an error in the system have? Is it just about reputation or will people be harmed?

Another highlight: the celebration of 5 years of WOMENinICT on the stage of the VÖSI Softwareday - the women's network is led by Christine Wahlmüller-Schiller from the Center for Technolog Experience. She also moderated the Startup Challenge, in which six AIT startups participated. www.softwareday.at
