Professor Martin Jackson belongs to the world-leading experts in the development of novel and sustainable processing routes for titanium. Recently, he visited AIT and the researchers of the LKR Leichtmetallkompetenzzentrum Ranshofen by invitation of AIT titanium expert Thomas Klein.
After obtaining an M.Eng degree from The University of Sheffield, Martin Jackson initially followed an aerospace materials career working for Rolls-Royce before studying for his PhD at Imperial College in London. Between 2001 and 2005 he worked as a research associate at Imperial. In 2005 he was awarded a Royal Academy of Engineering/EPSRC Research Fellowship and moved back to the department in 2008. Martin was appointed to Senior Lecturer in 2011, Reader in Metals Processing in 2017, Professor in 2019 and is UK representative on the World Titanium Committee. With over 110 scientific papers in the field and recent advances in the field-assisted sintering of titanium alloys, his research is at the forefront of sustainable processing of metal alloys.
During a stay in Austria, Prof. Jackson visited LKR in Ranshofen, Professor Jackson lectured about the recent research advances in the STAR (Sheffield Titanium Alloy Research) group, which was complemented by an insightful tour of LKR’s laboratories. The central focus of the visit was on fostering future collaborative research activities with researchers at LKR. His visit was a great honour for us.
