On 11 June 2025, AIT Austrian Institute of Technology was prominently represented at the 29th Europa-Forum Wachau on the Campus Krems: by Anton Dunzendorfer, Head of the Competence Unit Digital Health Information Systems of the AIT Center for Health and Bioresources, on the expert panel “Facing Aging – Embracing Longevity,” and with an information booth presenting current research projects such as HerzMobil as well as the upcoming Technology Talks by AIT.

Europe faces the challenge of sustainably relieving its healthcare systems and increasing the number of healthy life years due to demographic change. Chronic diseases such as heart failure require continuous care, yet long journeys to specialists, fragmented patient information, and decreasing personnel resources make consistent care difficult. Modern IT solutions can help by digitizing processes and relieving healthcare professionals, thus ensuring a high quality of care despite limited staffing.

On the “Facing Aging – Embracing Longevity” panel, Anton Dunzendorfer emphasized the role of telehealth and remote monitoring in providing chronically ill patients with tailored treatment while conserving resources. Programmes like HerzMobil—which has now entered a pilot phase in Lower Austria—link daily telemonitoring of vital parameters with networked physicians and specialized nursing staff. In Tyrol, Styria, and Carinthia, HerzMobil helps patients after hospital stays through digitally supported care and therapy management, strengthening their self-management and improving their quality of life.

At the same time, AIT’s booth presented its diverse digital health approaches—from AI-supported diagnostic systems to data-driven care networks—and promoted the Technology Talks by AIT in September, where research results will be translated into practice and transfer potentials discussed.

“Telehealth enables us to accompany chronically ill patients proactively in their therapy and to manage it on an individual basis. In this way, we can not only prevent complications but also significantly improve quality of life in everyday life—especially at a time when personnel is scarce. In the future, we will only be able to maintain quality of care by using modern IT solutions,” explains Anton Dunzendorfer, Head of the Competence Unit Digital Health Information Systems at AIT.

The Europa-Forum Wachau provided a platform for discussion on how state-of-the-art technologies and networked health solutions are essential to harness the potential of digital innovation for a longer, healthier life. AIT continues to be closely involved in pilot projects in various areas as a strong partner of the State of Lower Austria. With the Technology Talks by AIT in September 2025, AIT will continue the dialogue with politics, science, and industry.
