The annual CHI conference is the conference for Human Factors in Computing Systems. Unfortunately it had to be cancelled this year due to Corona. Nevertheless, the workshop organizers were given the opportunity to bring their participants together and organize virtual events in the context of the CHI 2020. Simone Kriglstein and Peter Fröhlich from the Center for Technology Experience used this opportunity and held their workshops online.
Simone Kriglstein organised an international workshop on the topic "Spectator Experience in Gaming and eSports" (https://seegamesws.wordpress.com/). The workshop focused on the question of how technologies and HCI can contribute to make the viewer experience more active and lively when playing games. The goal of Simone Kriglstein and her colleagues was to bring together researchers from different disciplines in order to promote interdisciplinary exchange and raise awareness of the topic. Simone Kriglstein: "I am very pleased that the workshop could take place in a virtual form. It was very important to offer a platform for international exchange to strengthen the topic and bring together colleagues with common research interests and visions.
Peter Fröhlich devoted his workshop to the topic "Automation Experience - Designing for Intelligibility, Interventions, Interplay and Integrity" (http://http://everyday-automation.tech-experience.at/). New approaches to the development and research of automated systems in everyday private, public and professional environments were discussed. After an introduction by Philippe Palanque, University of Toulouse, to the core topics of Automation Experience research such as intelligibility, interventions and integrity, the participants* presented their position papers. "We are very pleased that we conducted the workshop in a teleconference format. The live discussions and collaborative notes allowed us to get to know new colleagues in our research field, learn from each other and develop ideas for cooperation," reported Peter Fröhlich.
