Electric cars became part of our daily lives some time ago – and are becoming increasingly attractive. Advances in range, charging infrastructure and vehicle diversity are making them a real alternative for more and more people. At the same time, questions around sustainability, recycling and future battery concepts are increasingly becoming the focus of public attention.
In the current edition of the ORF program Autofocus, Katja Fröhlich, head of the Competence Unit “Battery Technologies” at AIT Austrian Institute of Technology, talks about current developments in battery research. The focus is on battery recycling, the potential of solid-state batteries, and the increasing diversification: future electric vehicles will be equipped with different battery types depending on their intended use – for example, in city runabouts compared to sports cars.
