The Global Forum on Open and Responsible Research and Innovation took place in Vienna in early October 2024. 86 innovators from a wide range of sectors and international experts from over 25 countries discussed the present and future of Open and Responsible Research and Innovation in Vienna. ‘Open and Responsible Research and Innovation (ORRI) is a concept that aims to make scientific research and innovation processes more transparent, inclusive and ethically responsible. It combines two central approaches: Open Research and Responsible Research and Innovation.
The Global Forum, organised by the AIT Center for Innovation Systems and Policy in cooperation with the REINFORCING consortium, offered a unique platform for the growing ORRI community and provided an opportunity for lively exchange and collaboration. The forum also served to promote international and interdisciplinary dialogue. Numerous decision-makers from policy, public administration and business exchanged views on how to successfully shape change and build trust in public institutions.
‘With the Global Forum, we were able to provide a stage for impressive examples of responsible ecosystem design - in cross-sector topics such as digital agri-food or urban mobility. And as AIT, we were also able to demonstrate our pioneering role in the ethics of emerging technologies such as AI,’ says Petra Wagner from the Center for Innovation Systems & Policy.
The ORRI Forum programme offered an exciting mix of interactive workshops and plenary sessions. Peter Biegelbauer (AIT ISP) moderated a high-level expert panel on the topic of ‘Global StORRIes’, where international best practices and possible developments were discussed. ‘With our hybrid formats, we were able to offer many international participants the opportunity to take part in the forum from all over the world,’ said Cornelia Reiter (AIT) from the Organising Committee.
