At the 2019 State Prize for Mobility, the AIT project ‘COMPAS’, which was submitted together with Bombardier and Mission Embedded, won in the category ‘Research. Develop. Break New Ground.’ The State Prize for Mobility is the highest award presented by the Austrian Ministry of Transport, Innovation and Technology to Austrian companies and institutions.
The award-winning COMPAS research project developed new technologies for improving the driving safety of trams using imaging systems.
‘Among other things, AIT developed a new method of vehicle localisation using optical 3D sensors. The position of trams can now be determined without the need for GPS or infrastructure support,’ explains DI Christian Zinner, Thematic Coordinator in the Competence Unit Autonomous Systems.
