LGBTIQA+ am AIT

As Austria’s largest non-university research institution, we work on solutions to the major challenges of our time. Innovation arises from diverse perspectives, interdisciplinary collaboration, and an environment where people can authentically realize their potential. The visibility and inclusion of LGBTIQ+ individuals is therefore an important part of our culture of diversity and innovation.

Diversity Strengthens Research and Innovation

Research thrives on new approaches, critical perspectives, and creative solutions. Diverse teams play a key role in examining complex issues more comprehensively and making technological developments more socially relevant.

Particularly in the natural sciences, technology development, and engineering, many fields have long been characterized by limited diversity. This makes it all the more important today to create an inclusive environment that makes different life realities visible and offers equal opportunities for development.

AIT views diversity not only as a social responsibility but also as an essential factor for scientific excellence, international competitiveness, and sustainable innovation.

Visibility shapes the future

LGBTIQ+ individuals have had a significant impact on the history of science and technology. Figures such as Alan Turing, one of the founders of modern computer science, demonstrate the contribution that diversity can make to scientific progress.

At the same time, visible role models and inclusive structures are still often lacking, particularly in the fields of technology and engineering. An open and appreciative corporate culture helps break down barriers, foster talent, and enable greater diversity in research and development over the long term. That is why AIT is committed to visibility, raising awareness, and fostering a culture of mutual respect.

Our Commitment

At AIT, we create an environment where employees can feel safe, respected, and valued, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

This includes:

  • a non-discriminatory and inclusive work environment
  • a clear stance against exclusion and inappropriate behavior
  • Awareness of diversity and unconscious biases
  • promoting equal opportunity and fair career paths
  • Visibility of diversity within the organization
  • Support for an open and respectful communication culture

We are convinced that research and innovation benefit from diversity. Different perspectives not only strengthen teams but also enhance the quality of scientific work and the societal impact of technological developments.

Working Together for an Open Research Culture

AIT stands for a modern research and work culture in which diversity is seen as a strength. We are committed to ensuring that LGBTIQA+ individuals are visible in science, research, and technology, receive equal opportunities, and can develop their skills in a respectful environment. Because sustainable innovation arises where openness, collaboration, and diversity are put into practice.
