Over the past decade, the Center for Digital Safety & Security at the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology has developed into a recognised R&D partner for industry and government security agencies. More than 200 top-class scientists develop next-generation information and communication systems in this leading domestic knowledge factory in order to be able to design future infrastructures in the context of global digital networking and digitalisation in a highly secure and reliable manner.
"As Head of the Competence Unit "Data Science & Artificial Intelligence" (DSAI), I would be
delighted if you were to apply to the AIT and start your scientific work at the Center for Digital
Safety & Security (DSS) in one of the main areas of work that I supervise."
With the founding of the Competence Unit Data Science & Artificial Intelligence in April 2020, the previous research priorities in the area of Data Science were restructured and the extensive R&D activities were thematically consolidated and thus better aligned to the user groups of cultural institutions, public security and industry.
With the reorientation of my research group to focus on Cultural Data Science, Data Science for Public Security and Industrial Data Science, we are open to newcomers with different scientific backgrounds and interests.
In the area of Cultural Science, we deal with the management and AI-supported analysis of digitised cultural assets as well as with methods for the long-term preservation of digitised artefacts in order to preserve this valuable European heritage for future generations.
In the core area of Data Science for Public Security, we want to make the internet safer for European citizens. In doing so, we are building on digital forensics, supporting the executive in the prosecution of crime in the area of digital assets and consumer protection.
The area of forensics is concerned with uncovering disinformation using machine learning and NLP technologies or extracting security-relevant audio events using neural network models. We have developed a platform for best data sovereignty based on transparent algorithms in order to support law enforcement authorities in the fight against criminal activities in the field of virtual assets and thus enable citizens to use cryptocurrencies safely. And in the area of consumer protection, we were the first to set up an annotated "ground truth" collection of archived fake shops, so that customers can be warned in real time about unknown dangers when shopping online.
In Industrial Data Science, we use data analysis methods to gain insights into industrial digitalisation processes. Among other things, this involves large-scale monitoring of complex systems such as communication networks or blockchain applications, using data analysis, data modelling and predictive model development. With our core competencies in data engineering and analysis techniques, we can help industrial companies improve their digitalisation processes, based on their data.
