More flexibility for more renewables in the grid-bound heat supply!
The local and district heating sector plays a central role in Austria's energy supply. Heat pipeline infrastructure passes by businesses whose waste heat could be used in many ways, and along its path lie open areas for possible solar heating systems and heat storage.
The goal of the ThermaFLEX lead project is to develop strategies for making heating networks more flexible and to exploit alternative energy sources in order to increase the share of renewable heat. This would not only improve the air, but also avoid CO2 emissions, increase security of supply and protect consumers from rising oil and gas prices.
The focus is on demonstrators in district heating supply areas in small, medium-sized and large cities, which are being monitored scientifically and most of which are also being put into practice.
