Planning climate-friendly districts

indiKWAtor project: Development of key figures to assess the adaptedness of urban districts to climate change

What is the project about?

The indiKWAtor project is developing a set of indicators that can be used to assess the adaptedness of a neighborhood to impending climate change.

What is the methodological approach?

In a joint approach with experts from urban climatology, meteorology, landscape and transport planning, literature research and stakeholder workshops are carried out. The indicator set is developed and tested on this basis. In the style of a decision tree, further adaptation measures or investigations (in the course of existing planning and development processes) can be recommended for the analyzed neighborhood.

What are the benefits of the project?

With the set of indicators developed, cities and municipalities can check how climate-adapted a neighborhood is and whether further measures are recommended - for example, unsealing, creating green spaces as recreational areas, etc.

The aim of the project is to facilitate the transition from research to practice - so that climate-friendly cities do not remain a vision of the future, but become reality.
