Local location improvements in rural areas for target groups with limited mobility

The aim of the project is to support people at risk of mobility poverty. As part of the project, offers and solutions for improved accessibility in rural areas will be identified in order to reduce mobility costs, and their implementation potential will be trialled as part of the testing of a guide for regional and local stakeholders and those affected. The focus is on two key groups of people who are particularly at risk of poverty: Elderly and very elderly people and families (especially single parents and families with many children). Therefore, a spatially differentiated quantification of the key groups of people with public transport accessibility deficits is first carried out, the (mobility) needs of the key groups of people and the spatial differences in their quality of care are presented.

From the results, the number of people at risk of mobility poverty can be differentiated locally and regionally. In addition, target group-specific measures to improve public transport services and supply options will be developed and communication strategies to increase acceptance and raise awareness will be developed in several transdisciplinary work steps. The results will be prepared as guidelines for regional and local stakeholders, whose relevance for implementation will be tested on a pilot basis with regional and local stakeholders and, using a participatory research approach, with potentially affected people using the example of a rural pilot region particularly affected by mobility poverty.
