AIT experts presented the latest research on drone security and Windows credential security.
On 2 October 2026, the IT Security Community Exchange (IT-SECX) 2026 took place at the St. Pölten campus. The annual conference organised by USTP – University of Applied Sciences St. Pölten brings together experts from research, industry and practice, and provides a platform for professional exchange on current developments and challenges in IT security. This year’s event was held under the theme ‘Cyber Resilience, Regulation & Sovereignty’.
The AIT Austrian Institute of Technology was represented in the conference programme by three experts and two specialist presentations. Philipp-Sebastian Vogt, a cyber security expert at the Centre for Digital Safety & Security, provided insights into the security analysis of modern drone communications using Software Defined Radio (SDR) in his presentation “Decoding the Drone: Live Analysis of Aerial Cybersecurity”. Using real radio signals, he demonstrated how drone communication protocols can be analysed and potential vulnerabilities identified. A live demonstration illustrated the entire analysis process, from capturing the radio signals to examining the transmitted data.
Another key focus was the security of modern Windows systems. Dominik Steffan and Felix Schuster, also cyber security experts at the Centre for Digital Safety & Security, presented their talk “Dumping Credentials in Win11 25H2”, which covered recent research into credential extraction on Windows 11 25H2. The focus was on the increasing security of the Local Security Authority Subsystem Service (LSASS) through LSA Protection, as well as the question of which attack vectors still exist despite these protective measures. The practical tests presented demonstrated both the effectiveness of current Windows hardening measures and the remaining challenges in securing sensitive login credentials.
IT-SECX also offered a wide-ranging programme on current cyber security topics, as well as numerous opportunities for exchange between the research community, industry and the security community. Through these two presentations, AIT contributed the latest research findings and practical experience to the discussion, thereby underlining its expertise in the analysis and securing of modern digital and cyber-physical systems.
