Fake stores on the Internet are becoming increasingly numerous and at the same time more difficult to detect. The beta version of the Fake-Shop Detector now offers support: The tool examines in the Internet browser in real time whether it is a question of serious or fraudulent online stores and thus represents a best practice for the benefits and opportunities of the use of artificial intelligence for consumers. Users are encouraged to participate in the test phase.
Vienna, October 21, 2021 - Online shopping is booming like never before, while at the same time the fake store trap is snapping shut more and more often: the goods are ordered and paid for, but never arrive. Fake stores are becoming more and more professional and thus increasingly difficult to recognize as such. Once the money has been paid, it is irrevocably lost. The most effective way to protect consumers from this type of crime is therefore prevention.
The Fake-Shop Detector, developed by the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology, the Austrian Institute for Applied Telecommunications (ÖIAT) and X-Net Services, is now available in a beta version: Users who install the tool will be warned of fake stores in real time or can continue shopping safely if the Detector gives the green light. The Fake Shop Detector is now available for download for the Internet browsers Firefox, Edge and Chrome at www.fakeshop.at. Mobile users can check online stores in the Watchlist Internet app (www.watchlist-internet.at) or at www.fakeshop.at/shopcheck.
