AIT wins ISGAN Secretariat and Operating Agent for the third time

12.04.2021
The international network on smart grids is a central hub for international knowledge transfer

The AIT team led by Susanne Windischberger successfully beat its competitors in an international tender and was unanimously appointed for the third time as ISGAN's secretariat and operating agent.

The International Smart Grid Action Network (ISGAN) is an technology cooperation programme of the International Energy Agency and the Clean Energy Ministerial with the aim of promoting the development and dissemination of Smart Grid technologies worldwide. The 26 members of this high-profile network within the framework of the International Energy Agency (IEA) include China, the USA, Russia, India and Japan, the countries with the highest electricity consumption worldwide.

ISGAN is currently applying for its next phase of five years. ISGAN is taking this as an opportunity to closely examine its strategy and structure and make changes where necessary. The AIT Center for Energy was very intensively involved in this strategy process and will also accompany it in further planning and implementation.

Another important aspect in this network is the cooperation with other organisations and initiatives that are active in similar and related areas. Cooperation is to be strengthened and the work programmes coordinated in such a way that there is good complementarity but no overlap.

Within ISGAN, Austria is involved not only in this management position, but also with numerous experts in the eight ongoing working groups (annexes). Austria's representative in the ISGAN Executive Committee is Michael Hübner from the BMK and his deputy is Helfried Brunner, AIT Center for Energy.
